The TTC will implement several service changes on November 1. This article is based on a TTC media release and update on their website.
Rapid transit changes including improved travel times on part of 5 Eglinton.
On the streetcar system, rail service to Long Branch resumes, but service on King Street West will be diverted until mid-2027 for various track and sewer projects (this scheme was previously announced). Service will be improved on 505 Dundas and 510 Spadina.
On the bus network, service to Sunnybrook Hospital will be revised with a consolidation of 11 Bayview and 52/352 Lawrence West services, and the 124 Sunnybrook will disappear.
Service changes will affect several of the express routes. Some services (904 and 939) that have operated to Kennedy Station via Scarborough Town Centre will be cut back to STC.
Seasonal service will end for the 200-series routes to the Zoo, Bluffer’s Park, Cherry Beach and High Park.

Rapid Transit Routes
Lines 1 Yonge-University and 2 Bloor-Danforth will have updated schedules “to improve service reliability”. It is noteworthy that trains on Line 1 cannot make their scheduled running times due to slow orders and this is now affecting service levels.
On Line 1, the following changes will occur:
- On weekdays:
- Running times will be increased by 10 minutes midday and PM peak, and by 5 minutes in the evening.
- Headways will be widened from 3’35” to 3’56”, from 2’30” to 2’40” pm peak, and from 3’27” to 3’29” in the early evening.
- Trains will be added in the midday (2), early evening (1) and late evening (1).
- One additional gap train will be added in the AM peak and midday bringing the total to 2, and two gap trains will be added in the PM peak and weekday evenings.
- Triple crew stepbacks will be implemented in peak periods at Vaughan and Finch Stations to allow operators time to change ends and have a washroom break. (This refers to operators dropping back to the third following train at each terminal.)
- On Saturdays:
- Running times will be increased by 5 minutes in the early morning, and 1 train will be added.
- 2 gap trains will be added from mid-morning through to late evening.
- Late evening running times will be increased by 3 minutes, and headways widened from 4’50” to 5′.
- On Sundays:
- 3 gap trains will be added all day.
On Line 2:
- On weekdays:
- The 4 gap trains now scheduled in the peak periods will be removed.
- Late evening running times will be increased by 3 minutes, and headways widened from 4’50” to 5′.
- Double crew stepbacks will be implemented at Kipling and Kennedy Stations. Single stepbacks will be used in the midday and early evening at both terminals, and only at Kipling in the late evening.
- On weekends:
- There are some very minor changes to scheduled headways.
- Single crew stepbacks will be used at both Kipling and Kennedy during daytime periods, and only at Kipling in the evening.
Line 5 Eglinton will have new schedules with improve running times and service during all periods “due to improved operating conditions and enhanced transit signal priority measures”.
The actual changes can be seen in the GTFS version of the schedules which are already online. (GTFS is the standard schedule file format used by transit systems to publish schedule and other info for trip planning apps.) The table below compares AM peak travel and elapsed times for the September and November 2026 schedules.
Overall, the one way trips are 2 minutes shorter, down from 49 to 47 minutes. However, the change is concentrated in the western grade-separated section of the route and is partly offset by longer times on the eastern surface section. Claims of improved transit signal priority ring a tad hollow here.
I will include full details of the old and new service plans in a future update.

Streetcar Routes
Service on 501/507 Queen/Long Branch will return to normal with streetcars running west to Long Branch Loop. 507 Long Branch cars will run from Humber to Long Branch until mid-evening, and 501/301 Queen cars will be through routed for late evening and night service. Service on the 501 and 507 will run every 10 minutes at all times.

Schedules for 501 Queen were drawn up in anticipation of construction on Queen east from Leslie to Vancouver (west end of Russell Yard), but this work does not yet have a start date diversion will actually begin at 11pm on November 2. The schedule calls for:
- 501 Queen cars to divert via Coxwell, Gerrard and Broadview. This diversion was not yet operating on November 1, and streetcars remain on Queen until 11pm on November 2.
- 501B buses operate between Woodbine Loop at Kingston Road and University Avenue. The downtown loop is via Church, Richmond, University, King, York, Adelaide and Church to Queen.
The diversion notice contains the following map which does not include the wider diversion shown in the following construction service plan which presumably will be implemented later in the project.
TTC track replacement will run through November-December 2026, followed by sewer rehabilitation in January-March 2027.

The 504 King route will be restructured for track and water main construction projects on King Street West:
- 504/304 streetcars will run from Broadview Station to Dundas West station, the traditional termini of this line, but they will divert to Queen west from Shaw starting on a date yet to be announced, and from Spadina somewhat later in November. Streetcars will run every 10 minutes, the same headway as now provided on the 504A west of Dufferin, and the 504B east of the Distillery branch.
- 504C/304C buses will run from the Distillery District at Front & Cherry to Sunnyside Loop. Service will run every 7-11 minutes in the AM peak, then every 5 minutes through the day until the mid-evening when it will drop to 10 minutes.
- 503 Kingston Road buses will be extended west via King to Dufferin. Service will run every 6 minutes until early evening when it will drop to every 8 minutes, and then to every 10 late in the evening.
- 508 Lake Shore service remains suspended.

Service will be improved during some periods on 505 Dundas and 510 Spadina.
- 505 Dundas cars will now run every 5 minutes weekday peaks and midday, Saturday daytime, and Sunday afternoon compared to the current 6 minute headway.
- 510 Spadina cars will run every 5 minutes (10 to Union) weekday peaks, midday and early evening compared to the current 6/12 minute headways to Queens Quay and to Union respectively.
The service improvement on 505 Dundas is temporary due to a surplus of streetcar operators. It will be reversed in the Winter 2 schedule changes (mid-February). The service improvement on 510 Spadina reverses a cut made in the Fall 1 changes (September) in error.
Service will be reduced on 509 Harbourfront in keeping with seasonal drop in demand.
The temporary bus shuttle on the west end of 512 St. Clair from Gunn’s Loop to Lansdowne Station, and the 340 Junction night bus extension to Oakwood Loop will be removed. 512/312 streetcars are already running over the full length of the route.
Single step-back crewing will be implemented on 504 King and 505 Dundas at Broadview Station for reliability weekdays from 7am to 10pm, and weekends from 11am to 7pm. This allows operators to have a break without their car holding on the platform.

Bus Terminal Changes (Added October 31)
Operations will change at several terminals due to various route changes and maintenance work.
Eglinton Station
Paving work inside the station (which is actually the old Eglinton Garage) will occupy the existing southbound part of the loop through the station. Buses from the east will now enter from the south via Berwick and exit onto Duplex. Buses from the west will turn south on Duplex and drive through what used to be the south end of the old Eglinton Terminal to Yonge, then south to the Berwick entrance.
Bus bay allocations were changed informally in the Fall 1 (September) period, and this arrangement is now “official”.

Lawrence and Lawrence West Stations
With the restructuring of routes serving Sunnybrook Hospital, bay arrangements will change.

Scarborough Centre, Lawrence East and Kennedy Stations
With the change in express routes serving these stations, bus bays are reassigned.
Bus bay allocations at Lawrence East Station are revised.

Bus Route Changes (Updated Oct 31)
As noted above, service to Sunnybrook Hospital will be revised:
- The 11C Bayview (Davisville Stn to Sunnybrook) will be replaced by 11B Bayview (Davisville Stn to Lawrence Stn via Sunnybrook).
- 52F Lawrence West (Royal York branch) will be extended to Sunnybrook at all periods replacing 124 Sunnybrook.

Temporary additional service added to 25/925 Don Mills in September will be removed. Buses will come less frequently in almost all time periods.
Peak service on 26 Dupont is improved to reduce crowding.
The 29 Dufferin service to Princes’ Gates will be restored now that various seasonal events in the Exhibition Grounds have finished.
Service on 30 High Park North and on 189 Stockyards with which it is interlined will run less frequently in the AM peak weekdays, mornings on weekends, and late evenings on all days to provide additional travel time for reliability.
Service on 31 Greenwood will run slightly less frequently in the PM peak and Saturday afternoons for a construction diversion. (See map under 501 Queen above. This diversion is not yet in effect as of Nov. 1.)
Service on 34 Eglinton will run less frequently during most time periods allegedly to match service to ridership, but also to address operator availability.
A school trip on 37 Islington that left Steeles southbound at 2pm will be changed to 2:03pm to align with the departure time from Bishop Allen Academy.
The 43C Kennedy to Village Green Square will be removed during all periods. The 43B Kennedy to STC via Progress service will be restored early evenings on weekends.

Service on 48 Rathburn will be improved in the PM peak.
In addition to the Sunnybrook Hospital changes, routes 952 Lawrence Express and 352 Lawrence Night have schedule adjustments for reliability. Service levels are not changed.
Some trips on 953 Steeles East Express will operate with standard sized buses due to fleet conditions at McNicoll Garage.
Running times on 54/954 Lawrence East services are adjusted to compensate for serving Lawrence East Station. There is no change in service level, and the extra time is taken from terminal recovery time.
The stop on Shaw at Adelaide will be taken out of service on 63 Ossington due to nearby construction.
The official southern terminus of 72 Pape will change from Commissioners at Saulter westbound to Commissioners at Bouchette eastbound.
The 73 Royal York service will be changed in weekday peak periods and midday. The 73D to Albion service will be replaced by improved service on 73B to Mount Dennis Stn and 73C to Claireport. Late evening service will be reduced on both branches.
Service on 85 Sheppard East will change in several periods. Weekday midday service is reduced, but weekend daytime service is improved in some periods. Midday service is added on 985 Sheppard East Express.
Service on 86 Scarborough to the Zoo on Sunday daytime is reduced due to lower seasonal demand.
Extra vehicles that were added for construction diversions ending on 94 Wellesley are removed, and service reverts to every 20′ on both branches at all times.
Service on 95 York Mills is revised due to addition of evening and weekend service on 995 York Mills Express. The 95B local service to UTSC will no longer operate in periods when the 995 express is available. The 95A local service to Port Union will be improved slightly. Travel times are adjusted for improved reliability.
Temporary service improvements on 996 Wilson Express that were added in September in the midday and PM peak are removed.
Service on 102 Markham Road adjusted primarily to adjust running times for reliability. Service will be added on 902 Markham Road Express weekday early evenings, and weekend mornings and afternoons on a 15 minute headway.
Service on 116 Morningside reduced during most periods.
Service on 123 Sherway improved during weekday midday and PM peak periods.
Service on 129 McCowan North adjusted with improvements in many periods. Schedules adjusted to ensure evenly blended departures of the Steeles and Major Mac services.
Schedules of the 129A Major Mac service adjusted to align with GO train departures at Centennial Station. Daily: midday and early evening. Saturday & Sunday/holiday: morning, afternoon and early evening.
Service on 129B Steeles will operate with standard 40-foot buses at all times.
Recovery times in schedules for 130 Middlefield and 132 Milner will be reallocated to driving time to improve reliability.
Running times will be adjusted in most periods on 149 Etobicoke-Bloor for reliability and to relieve operational problems at Jane Station.
160 Bathurst North headways on weekend afternoons will be adjusted slightly for reliability.
162 Lawrence-Donway and 191 Underhill interlining will now occur in all time periods with minor changes in headways to align the routes. Travel times are adjusted to improve reliability.
Route 166 Toryork will no longer stop on Steeles at Friliui Court Walkway for operational reasons. The stop will still be used by the 60/960 Steeles services.
All 200-series seasonal buses to the Zoo, Bluffer’s Park, Cherry Beach and High Park are discontinued for the winter.
Headways on the 900 Airport Express are widened slightly on weekdays midday and PM peak, weekends afternoon and early evening.
Route 903 Kennedy Station-Scarborough Express will be renamed as 903 Kennedy-Progress Express to better reflect where it operates. There is no change in the service level.
Route 904 Sheppard-Kennedy Express will change to operate only between Don Mills and STC Stations, and will be renamed as 904 Don Mills-Scarborough Express.
Route 905 Eglinton East Express will have improved service in most periods.
Route 939A Finch Express and 939B Finch Express services will no longer operate to Kennedy Station. 939C Finch Express to Morningside Heights service will be added weekdays midday and early evening, and weekend mornings and afternoons. Buses will run every 15 to 20 minutes.
Peak period service will be restored on 943 Kennedy Express on a 15 minute headway. Note that this route will operate on the Scarborough busway between Kennedy Station and Ellesmere.

Weekday midday service will be added to 985 Sheppard East Express on a 15 minute headway.
Early evening weekday, and weekend morning and afternoon service will be added to 995 York Mills Express on a 15 10 minute headway. [Corrected]

The 508 (t/from Distillery) is currently running (I saw one on Monday) and is on TTC website. Are the suspending it again??
Steve: Yes. Probably won’t be back until next fall when all King diversions are finished.

What will happen the the 903B? Because the 903B doesn’t go along Progress Avenue.
Steve: The info published so far is silent on the 903B. I will have to check the gtfs schedule to see what’s going on.
I will update this comment when I have the info.

Let’s hope the 512 will operate to Keele at full capacity streetcars. When they temporarily extended it from Lansdowne they didn’t add cars so it’s been less cars running and sometimes there’s gaps!
Steve: I checked the new 512 schedules, and they include running time all the way to Keele, not just to Earlscourt Loop.

Funny, the 11B is the old 28 Davisville route! Will the 52F and 11B be equivalent to the 124 Sunnybrook’s current service? Thanks
Steve: Looking at the new schedules, this is a service cut in some periods for the link between Lawrence Station and Sunnybrook.

Do you know if the 95/995 is going to service Ellesmere Station on the Scarborough Busway? It’s a pretty difficult transfer from under the bridge, and the new loop on the busway entrance could facilitate the 95 stopping there.
Steve: Ellesmere Station is not listed as a stop on either the 95 or 995 schedules.

Correction: from the GTFS files the 995 will run every 10 minutes whenever it runs. The TTC also said on their official website that

How will be the new 95 headway? If it operates at a blended headway with 995 in new 995 service periods, does it mean that weekday evening and weekend daytime service will reduce from 6 to 7-8 min per bus? And TTC said 995 will be 10 minutes per bus.
Steve: The 10 minute headway was caught by another reader, and I have corrected the article. The headways for 95/995 services leaving York Mills Station are blended weekdays through the daytime so that they give a combined 5 minute service alternating local and express buses. However, in the early evening from 7:12pm onward, both buses leave at the same time until 9:22pm when the express service ends. Generally speaking the Saturday and Sunday services are blended although there a few points where this is not completely even due to schedule adjustments through the day.
Blending will not stay the same across the route because the expresses outrun the locals. Moreover, inbound trips have two separate origins and cannot be dispatched from a terminal the way they could be outbound. On the weekday schedules, service westbound at Moringside is on alternating 4 and 6 minute headways, except during the pm peak when it’s 5 and 5. However, the actual arrival at a mid-route stop is rarely precise, and it’s hard to say how well-regulated the spacing will be. Because the express buses run faster, there will be locations where they are scheduled to arrive at the same time as the locals, and others where, if both are on time, they will perfectly split the 10 minute intervals.

I’m disappointed service levels on 904 are still the same as when articulated buses ran even though they’ve been using regular buses for a while now. I was hoping they’d increase it. It will be interesting to see the crowding and wait times now on the SRT corridor as people got used to such frequent service over the past 3 years. Now that 904/939 no longer go to Kennedy, I wonder if we will feel a big difference. I’ll see next week. I was hoping they’d add a bit more service on the 903 to compensate a bit for that loss, especially as in rush hours it’s currently jam packed with the standard busses. I’m glad though 902, 939, 985, 995 have much needed improvements. The question is whether they will just continue runs with mostly or half standard buses instead of artics which is the norm now (I think I know the answer to that as I have low expectations of the TTC). 939 saw 10 standard buses this afternoon rush instead of artics. They need to seriously look into this as they’ve significantly reduced capacity with short buses running on artic schedules. Revert a route back to short buses and send more artics to McNicoll for the 939.
Steve: I’m waiting for the detailed service plans come out to build a combined list of busway routes to see what is happening to capacity and scheduled travel times.

GTFS data for Line 1 looks published. Total round trip time increased by around 10 minutes offset by about 6.5 minutes (or 3.3 minutes each way) terminal recovery time. So they slow down service mid-route while reducing bunching at terminal stations with net slower service, but more “reliable”. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this Steve.
Steve: Now that I have all of the details of the new service design, the article has been updated. I am not impressed with the fact that slow orders are so pervasive and long-lasting that they are now incorporated in the schedule and cause headways in some periods to be widened. There is no indication of when or if these changes will be backed out.

The Spadina LRT has a parallel bus service running, why no parallel bus service for the Finch West LRT and Eglinton LRT? I am tired of Downtown favouritism.
Steve: There are 506 Carlton buses looping north to Spadina station because of water main work at Yonge. Similarly, there have deen some diversions of 510 Spadina service to Bathurst station for construction with replacement bus service on Spadina.
There is a parallel bus service, the 34, on Eglinton although it is infrequent and unreliable. On Finch the stations are closer together and a parallel service is not operated or required.
You really need to check your facts before launching into a diatribe about downtown favouritism.

Do you have any info about the 191 adjustments?
Hopefully it stops Interlining with the 162 which has caused a lot of problems.
Steve: Looking at the GTFS schedules, there still appears to be an interline. What has happened is that headways are widened in many periods to provide more running time. I am still waiting for the detailed TTC memo including the service designs.

Normally when there are route changes, the TTC posts notices at every bus stop affected by the change. Taking the bus today along Lawrence Avenue East between Bayview Avenue and Lawrence Station, I saw no such notices for the 124/11B/52F changes. The only notice I saw was posted within Lawrence Station at the entrance to the underground bus terminal. I think there will be many confused riders on November 1 and 2.
Steve: There is a general problem that details of service changes come out at the last minute and there’s a rush to update online info and stop notices. I did not receive the final, approved version of the change detail until late on October 30, and am still working through updates to my article. There are many, many changes in this round.

Dundas is already one of the most frequent streetcar routes. How and why did they decide on Dundas instead of one of the routes stuck on 10 minute headways? Baffling.
Steve: Because it’s a temporary change. If they added cars to 506 Carlton or 501 Queen, taking them away would be harder to justify. Both routes are overdue for better service,

Long Branch loop has been rebuilt and there is an off-loading area just into the loop including a stop pole. The pole is still covered by a black garbage bag and streetcars are taking the middle track. Clearly if they are to offload, they would need to take the outside, north side track.
I await someone getting the memo about the offloading. Which is about time, it makes a quicker connection to the bus loop and also if you are going to Lake Shore itself. Taking the 10 km/h tour around the loop is pretty tedious.

Why is the 191 being reduced, our service is terrible as is and they’re further reducing service with the 162 interline negatively impacting service as well. What was once 20 minute frequencies is turning into half hour.
Steve: The TTC claims that the change is to improve service reliability giving buses longer to make their trips. It is, sadly, a common practice to widen headways to the point a service loses any attraction for riders in the name of keeping costs down rather than adding buses to make up for a schedule that was inadequate in the first place. The 162/191 is not the only route where this is happening.

Would it be possible to loop cars through Leslie Barns? If it’s a possibility I almost feel like it would be better to run 501 cars to Leslie and buses between River and Neville Park. The lack of loops and diversion track east of downtown has always been a problem the TTC isn’t interested in solving. It ends up overtaxing track time on Broadview.
Steve: It would be possible, but time consuming.
