Updated May 14 at 9:30am:
The TTC has announced via a service advisory that 6 Finch West will be closed by Metrolinx from Friday, May 15 to Monday, May 18 (Victoria Day). Regular service will resume on Tuesday, May 19.
The purpose is “planned infrastructure and system improvement work”, but with no details.
Shuttle buses will operate while the line is closed. The 336 night bus service is not affected.
There is no further information on the Metrolinx Finch West site as of May 14 at 5:40am.
Update: The Metrolinx notice went up on May 8, but it is not on the 6 Finch page but rather on the general Media page which is not where riders would look for info.
“Waterfront East LRT has been renamed the Waterfront East Rapid Transit Line”. Hmm. What if we rename the 510 Spadina the Spadina Rapid Transit Line” and the 512 St. Clair the “St. Clair Rapid Transit Line”. Along with appropriate upgrades to make the really RAPID.
Only a start before, we do “The Queensway Rapid Transit Line” of 501 Queen and others. 😱

The Star says “the improvements are meant to strengthen infrastructure for future winter weather conditions” such as “icy conditions”.
Steve: Now if only Metrolinx and the TTC had put that info in their announcements. Sometimes they are their own worst enemies through sloppy comms.

This is much like my experience with the 504 King recently, trying every link on the TTC page to find my streetcar. It turns out it was under Construction Notices, not Service Alerts or Service Advisories. As far as I can tell Construction Notices is not available in any of the main navigation options on a mobile phone, setting aside the absurdity of this information being possibly in one of three distinct places. On some level I don’t care why the streetcar isn’t operating, I want to know what service is available to me at the moment I am trying to get somewhere.
