Believe It or Not, Dundas West is Open

Yesterday, I had the pleasure along with many others of actually riding a streetcar all the way from Broadview to Dundas West Station.  New track all the way, and finally there is no lineup of 505’s waiting to get into Broadview Station because they are so early.

Meanwhile, the TTC has a mixed message on the subject.

According to the Route Diversions page (linked from their Service Advisories), there is still only bus service west of Lansdowne, complete with a link to a Customer Notice.

Meanwhile on the Construction page (also linked from the Service Advisories), the notice correctly tells people that service has resumed to Dundas West Station.

The TTC has high hopes for consolidation of its web information via pages such as the Service Advisories.  Vital to such an effort is keeping the information consistent, accurate and up-to-date.  I will leave to others commentaries on web styles, typography and clarity of navigation.

  1. As someone who edits a small website I can appreciate some of the TTCs website problems but they make things more complicated for themselves by having multiple versions of the same information.

You, Steve, note the two versions of the Dundas West information.

On the Route Diversion page the 59 Maple Leaf bus is described as “Project completion extended to early December.” On the Details page it is described as “The entire project is scheduled to be completed by November 2007.”

The information on the 506/306 also has two different dates on the two pages – and I assume these routes may also now be back to normal as the diversion was to avoid the Sorauren bridge which was just finished to allow the 505 to return!

I also see our old friend Broadview Station was supposed to be completed today “Scheduled opening; Monday, December 17, 2007.” I assume you are too busy celebrating this, if it’s true, to let us know :->

Though I know the Mount Dennis Bus Garage was not opened due to $$, it seems odd the last Project Update there is dated March 2006 – which says “The facility is scheduled to be operational in Fall 2007.”

I realise a new TTC website is in the works but the problem is not only with the present ghastly layout and navigation – there are clearly serious problems with keeping the content up-to-date. For one thing, I doubt if anyone authorised to update it works on weekends and holidays.
