TTC Service Changes Effective July 26, 2026

The service changes for the second portion of the summer largely consist of restoring several routes to their pre-World Cup service.

  • 509 Harbourfront weekday service will return to its pre-World Cup level. Weekend service will remain higher to handle summer traffic.
  • 309 Harbourfront night car will be discontinued. Early Sunday morning service will be provided by the 509.
  • 510 Spadina will return to its normal schedule and route via Queens Quay to Union Station.
  • 511 Bathurst service will be reduced.
  • 311 Bathurst night car service will end, and the 307 Bathurst night bus will resume service to Exhibition Loop
  • 929 Dufferin Express weekend early evening service will end.

Track, overhead and sewer construction will resume on College between Bay and Church. Streetcars will divert both ways via Bay, Dundas and Parliament. Replacement buses will run from Spadina Station to Broadview & Gerrard. Westbound buses will divert around the work site via Jarvis, Wellesley and Bay.

512/312 St. Clair cars will make run in/out trips via Queen, Broadview, Dundas and Bathurst.

Changes are also planned for:

  • 1 Yonge-University-Spadina
    • Service Assistance Crews who assist with turnarounds at terminals will be removed due to “workforce considerations”.
  • 2 Bloor-Danforth
    • All weekday midday run-ins and deadheads from Pape Station will be changed to occur at Kennedy Station.
  • 22 Coxwell / 92 Woodbine South
    • Holiday interline discontinued. Service adjusted in some periods.
  • 21 Brimley
    • Service adjusted in all periods for reliability.
  • 94 Wellesley
    • Service adjusted for construction on Wellesley Street East between Jarvis and Parliament.
  • 162 Lawrence-Donway & 191 Underhill
    • Routes interlined weekdays daytime.
  • 927D Highway 27 Express
    • 927D Kipling Stn/Steeles via Royalcrest diverted via Baywood and Mars Road for construction.

Fleet Summaries

According to the June 2026 CEO’s Report, the TTC’s bus fleet numbers “over 2,100” buses. The peak scheduled service for the Summer 2 Period is 1,502 buses. Allowing for spares at 20%, this means that about 1,800 buses are spoken for with a further 300 in reserve.

The TTC’s streetcar fleet numbers 264 cars of which 149 are in peak service. Allowing for 20% spares, this means that about 180 are spoken for and a further 84 are in reserve.

Fall schedules will bring some service restorations and improvements, but there will still be headroom to operate more service with the existing fleet. We will see come the 2027 budget whether the TTC is given the resources (i.e. staff headcount) to actually use the vehicles it owns.

  1. “1 Yonge-University-Spadina

Service Assistance Crews who assist with turnarounds at terminals will be removed due to “workforce considerations”.

    2 Bloor-Danforth

All weekday midday run-ins and deadheads from Pape Station will be changed to occur at Kennedy Station.”

What does this mean in layman’s term? Could you explain the following:
    – Service assistance crews
    – Run-ins

What do you foresee the consequences of these Line 1 & 2 changes to be? I have observed that post-morning rush-hour service may have trains end their eastbound trips at Pape. Will these trains now go all the way to Kennedy and then deadhead to Greenwood Yard?

Steve: Service assistance crews are spare operators who can take over a train if necessary to speed up terminal ops. Yes, trains that previously went out of service at Pape and ran in to Greenwood Yard will now do so westbound from Kennedy.

Service Assistance Crews who assist with turnarounds at terminals will be removed due to “workforce considerations”.”

Is that a comfortable euphemism to say they are short-staffed and don’t actually have enough people to do this job anymore?

Steve: Yes. It is also related to concentration of vacations in the summer periods to keep staffing higher in the busier season. The real test will come with the September schedules and the degree to which staff availability is still cited as a constraint on service.y

  3. Hey steve are there any destination sign changes?

Steve: Only switching back from the special World Cup signage to the standard versions. Nothing new added.

  4. Just noticed in the schedules that 509 is every 9 mins on weekdays and 510 is every 10 mins for branch A. That is some headway blending indeed!

  5. Too bad the 510 is reverting back to two branches. Purely anecdotal, but it really felt like the northbound service spacing was a lot more reliable when they weren’t trying to blend service from two different origins. Not to mention that it must be easier to do operator layovers and recovery time at Queens Quay loop, where you’re not worried about holding up a 509 behind you. It seems like the TTC really has an aversion to transfers in principle (despite the entire network being based on them), not recognizing that not all transfers are equal… a 2-minute wait is entirely different from a transfer to a 30-minute unreliable service where you just missed your connection.

The Pape deadheading always seemed like more disruption than it was worth. Whenever I experienced it, it seemed to take 4 to 5 minutes to unload everyone, to dissuade passengers from boarding an out of service train, for the operators to walk the length of the train and back to make sure there weren’t any stragglers, and to pull out slowly. Meanwhile you’re holding up the in-service train that’s right behind. That isn’t a consideration when you do it at Kennedy.

Steve: Yes. That was always a time-consuming procedure. In theory it saves the extra time for trains to make the trip out to Kennedy, but at the cost of delays and staffing at Pape to clear out the trains.

  6. No 503 streetcar? Due to construction? Or is a bus cheaper to operate?
Are loading’s so low a bus is sufficient?

Steve: The 503 bus has been a construction alternate through many projects. There are moves within the TTC to change it back to the old scheme with streetcar service to downtown weekday daytime, and the 22 Coxwell bus otherwise, but nothing formal yet.

  7. Was the 311 Bathurst streetcar service every night during the service period, or only on days there was a match at Toronto stadium?

    Steve: Every night.

  8. Kindly check chart 94 PM rush. Shows 9 buses?

Steve: Fixed, thanks. The “before” value was wrong too.
