The TTC will make changes to several routes on January 4. Some of this is simply the restoration of service oriented to school traffic, but several routes will see a mixture of adds and cuts to address ridership. The actual change from December to January is only 518 weekly hours, and most improvements are offset by cutbacks.
One new route, 906 Airport-Humber College Express will begin operating.
The detailed service plans for all changes are in a spreadsheet at the end of the article.
TTC will change its naming of schedule periods from month-based, which can be confusing when periods span calendar months, to a season name plus a number. Hence the January 2026 schedule period is called “Winter 1”.
There is no change in the construction projects list. In the chart below, the City water main work on Queen west of Broadview is shown as completing in Winter period 2. It is not clear when the TTC trackwork planned for March-April will actually begin, and this is probably weather sensitive.

Subway Shuttle Bus Signage
The signage for subway/LRT shuttles will be standardized to a format like those below with options for sundry short turn points.
- Line 1 Shuttle Bus // Southbound
- Line 2 Shuttle Bus // Eastbound
- Line 4 Shuttle Bus // to Don Mills Station
- Line 6 Shuttle Bus // Eastbound
Rapid Transit Crewing Changes
On Line 1, standby/gap trains will be added on weekends, as well as Service Assistance Crews (SACs) on all days.
On Line 5 (in testing) and Line 6, SACs will be added.
There are no changes in rapid transit service beyond restoration of service levels to pre-holiday levels.
Streetcar Service Changes
There is only one small change in the streetcar network.
503 Kingston Road
The 503 Kingston Road route will continue operating as a bus, but with a small change in the AM peak to make the transition from the 10′ early morning headway to the 6′ peak headway at 7:00am rather than 7:30am to reduce crowding. Buses will continue to operate via Queen and Parliament to King Street while 501 Queen streetcars divert via Broadview, Dundas and Parliament.

Bus Service Changes
Line 6 Shuttle Bus / Islington 37S / 906 Airport-Humber College
The interline between the late evening Finch West shuttle and 37S Islington (Humber College-Humberwood) will be broken. All Finch West shuttle bus trips will end at Humber College Bus Terminal. The 37S will be replaced by 906 Airport-Humber College.
Extra service will operate on 36 Finch West, 84 Sheppard West and 927 Highway 27 Express. These buses will be available for redeployment on Finch to supplement the Line 6 Finch Shuttle if needed.
Temporary Service Improvement
Route 56 Leaside is the only route in this period to get added unscheduled service.
Several routes where service reductions were planned will remain unchanged “to limit the impact of service reallocations on service reliability”.

- 50 Burnhamthorpe
- 53 Steeles East

eBus Block Optimization
Schedules at Malvern, Mount Dennis and Wilson Divisions will be adjusted to reflect eBus operation. Many work blocks are too long for a single eBus charge, and the blocks have to be broken up to provide shorter periods in service.
An overview of eBus scheduling constraints is in the table below.

BMO Field Construction
Routes 29 Dufferin and 329 Dufferin Night will be rerouted within Exhibition Place due to construction at BMO Field in anticipation of FIFA Games. There is no change in service levels.

Details of Service Changes
Hi Steve, could you explain what service assistance crews are?
Steve: They are used primarily at terminals to give operators a longer break particularly when trains are late and a fast turnaround is needed.

Hi Steve,
I’m a bit concerned that there’s no mention of the restoration of the two #111 bus stops at 366 the East Mall. These were randomly removed just after Thanksgiving.
Our condominium community was furious; long story short we protested, and ultimately we were assured they’d be reactivated by January 4th. This issue was also brought up at the December ACAT meeting, but not seeing it listed here is disappointing, honestly.
Steve: I just checked the detailed schedules for January 4 which were posted on December 24, and the stops at 366 The East Mall have been restored.

Is there any site to complain about ttc bus drivers, some of them are really good but some needs to be fired for their terrible service.
Steve: TTC has a web page with links for filing complaints and compliments. I will not guarantee you satisfaction.

The latest GTFS release also includes the 158 Trethewey albeit without any scheduled trips. That could have just slipped through or it could be an indication of an imminent opening of Line 5 mid-board.
Steve: I suspect it just slipped through because new schedules would be required for other services too, notably 34 Eglinton.

About the new 74 Mount Pleasnt school trips, you said there will be a southbound trip from Doncliffe loop at 8 AM, so does this mean that this new 74 school trip will go from Doncliffe loop together with the 103 Mount Pleasnt North? And is this the same for the northbound trip from Boradway & the 3:55 PM trip from St. Clair stn?
Steve: Yes, it appears that after splitting the route in two parts, the TTC has realized that there is a demand across Eglinton by students at Northern Secondary, hence the through routing of the trippers.

You didn’t write anything for the 334.
Steve: It’s a “reliability” change, not a service change.

Did the TTC create a number of 906S short turn signs for the new route?
Steve: See the list in a previous reply.

At the rate things are progressing, the OL advanced works will be complete before a single promised eBus is assigned to the night shift on the 72. I’ve been told this is because all of the runs are too long for electrics and no one has bothered to re-do any of the schedules at Birchmount. It’s only been 7 months.
Also taking bets on whether they repair problem spots on the Queen St bridge while they do the road east of there.
Steve: I remembering asking about this during consultations on the 2026 Service Plan, and at the time, no, issues with the special work at the King/Queen junction, and with the expansion joint on the King Street leg are not in this year’s plans. And so another closure in another year. This is called “planning”.

It’s good to see the TTC restoring more ten minute network that a promise that has been ignored for the past seven years and the 906 Humber college AirPort Express since it will make travel to the airport faster and reliable. Also the 36 Finch west bus between line 1 stations should be named 36 Finch Central just like the 185 Sheppard central name.

Though it may have been a ‘one off’ and is probably something that the TTC ought to do regularly, I was quite impressed that the TTC repaired lots of badly deteriorated ‘margins’ and even a whole section of track (Parliament to Sumach) when King was closed for the King/Church work last summer. Though they did not deal with the Yonge to Church block (which needs work) they really did lot. Maybe it is their new way of doing things?
Steve: I hope so. The TTC and City talk about co-ordinating work, but there are cases where they miss obvious chances. King East was an exception that I hope is repeated.

Hi Steve, I take mostly Wilson division routes buses. I’ve never seen e buses on those routes. The 3700-3759 series are shared with Birchmount, new Eglinton, Arrow Rd and and Mount Dennis yards. The 6000, 6100, 6600, 6700 series are shared with all other divisions except Wilson and Queensway. Is this new to Wilson in January?
Steve: Construction of charging facilities at Wilson was delayed due to a damaged feeder cable according to the most recent quarterly project update. Once they are able to charge buses, Wilson routes will see eBuses.

Hi Steve, any updates on the articulated bus retirements (if they are going through with them in 2026?) It seems there are some issues with the LFSA fleet. 904/985 should just be converted to standard buses as everyday Malvern is never able to dispatch artics on all the runs or the artics get changed off after a few trips. I was hoping this board with Line 6 open that’d they send some of the artics to the east end to be able to actually run our routes properly. There have been days where 129B was all standard buses which is ridiculous given how much they reduced it when they converted to artics.
Steve: No update on this issue. I have asked TTC for a bus fleet plan which should give some indication of the ongoing status of the artics.

It’s as much about what isn’t done as it is about what actually gets done like the recent jobs at King and Sumach. Some broken panels got dug up and replaced while others within arms length remained broken.
Some of the new pours at the King and Bay intersection were already split into two pieces within a month of being repaired by the way.
