TTC Service Changes Effective January 4, 2026

The TTC will make changes to several routes on January 4. Some of this is simply the restoration of service oriented to school traffic, but several routes will see a mixture of adds and cuts to address ridership. The actual change from December to January is only 518 weekly hours, and most improvements are offset by cutbacks.

One new route, 906 Airport-Humber College Express will begin operating.

The detailed service plans for all changes are in a spreadsheet at the end of the article.

TTC will change its naming of schedule periods from month-based, which can be confusing when periods span calendar months, to a season name plus a number. Hence the January 2026 schedule period is called “Winter 1”.

There is no change in the construction projects list. In the chart below, the City water main work on Queen west of Broadview is shown as completing in Winter period 2. It is not clear when the TTC trackwork planned for March-April will actually begin, and this is probably weather sensitive.

Subway Shuttle Bus Signage

The signage for subway/LRT shuttles will be standardized to a format like those below with options for sundry short turn points.

  • Line 1 Shuttle Bus // Southbound
  • Line 2 Shuttle Bus // Eastbound
  • Line 4 Shuttle Bus // to Don Mills Station
  • Line 6 Shuttle Bus // Eastbound

Rapid Transit Crewing Changes

On Line 1, standby/gap trains will be added on weekends, as well as Service Assistance Crews (SACs) on all days.

On Line 5 (in testing) and Line 6, SACs will be added.

There are no changes in rapid transit service beyond restoration of service levels to pre-holiday levels.

Streetcar Service Changes

There is only one small change in the streetcar network.

503 Kingston Road

The 503 Kingston Road route will continue operating as a bus, but with a small change in the AM peak to make the transition from the 10′ early morning headway to the 6′ peak headway at 7:00am rather than 7:30am to reduce crowding. Buses will continue to operate via Queen and Parliament to King Street while 501 Queen streetcars divert via Broadview, Dundas and Parliament.

Bus Service Changes

Line 6 Shuttle Bus / Islington 37S / 906 Airport-Humber College

The interline between the late evening Finch West shuttle and 37S Islington (Humber College-Humberwood) will be broken. All Finch West shuttle bus trips will end at Humber College Bus Terminal. The 37S will be replaced by 906 Airport-Humber College.

Extra service will operate on 36 Finch West, 84 Sheppard West and 927 Highway 27 Express. These buses will be available for redeployment on Finch to supplement the Line 6 Finch Shuttle if needed.

Temporary Service Improvement

Route 56 Leaside is the only route in this period to get added unscheduled service.

Several routes where service reductions were planned will remain unchanged “to limit the impact of service reallocations on service reliability”.

  • 11 Bayview
  • 43 Kennedy
  • 50 Burnhamthorpe
  • 53 Steeles East
  • 76 Royal York South
  • 105 Dufferin North

eBus Block Optimization

Schedules at Malvern, Mount Dennis and Wilson Divisions will be adjusted to reflect eBus operation. Many work blocks are too long for a single eBus charge, and the blocks have to be broken up to provide shorter periods in service.

An overview of eBus scheduling constraints is in the table below.

BMO Field Construction

Routes 29 Dufferin and 329 Dufferin Night will be rerouted within Exhibition Place due to construction at BMO Field in anticipation of FIFA Games. There is no change in service levels.
