I thought this was going to be a comedy piece! You could do that you know. Throw in a LOT of humour and say Where Is My Streetcar?!! And then make some sill answers! Perhaps as a holiday theme? Not wait til April Fools. I like the title. I want more!!!!!

Wasn’t there a sitcom about this many years ago? ‘Car 504 Where Are You?’

Dec. 2 (11pm) to Dec 5 (4am): 506 Carton cars divert between Bathurst and Lansdowne via Dundas.
That means cars travelling East will be on Dundas until Bathurst then go north on Bathurst then turn east on College, only to turn south on Spadina and then continue east on Dundas until Bay and then turn north on Bay and East on College.
I mean why bother going on College only between Bathurst and Spadina… won’t it be better to just go straight on Dundas from Landsdowne until Bay ? Wouldn’t it be much faster? And how frustrating it would be for riders? Like who makes these decisions?
Steve: It’s also the combined effect of multiple overlapping diversions plus a protest at Yonge/Dundas. Carlton cars were running straight along Dundas from Spadina earlier, and as of 10pm they are back on Dundas.
Ps: Steve it was so great to meet you in person at the Streetcar event organized by TtcRiders!
Steve: Many thanks!

An interesting site that could provide answers 🙂
BlogTO background article
Thanks for the insights.
Steve: Yes, a very interesting site. The stats showing that “disorderly patrons” are the top cause of delay is interesting, along with other on-board issues such as ill patrons. In the recommendations, PSDs are proposed for a few major stations, but they will not address a large proportion of the total delays. Attention to issues such as patrons in distress on board and track fires are also important. Some of the track fires arise from debris thrown or blown onto the tracks, and that’s another rationale for PSDs, but this is not the only cause. Now that surface delay stats have more granularity, I am planning to work through them too once the full year 2025 is available.

506 operator today announced that the diversion would continue until 20 December. First I’ve heard a specific date.
Steve: Yes, the change back is in the Dec service changes which I have not published yet to avoid overlap with the Finch opening. In theory, they could restore service sooner if the overhead work is finished.

When did they uncover the black tarps covering the protected turn signals installed on Broadview for the 501 diversion? I’m shocked.
Steve: Just checked northbound at Dundas. Still covered. Will check southbound at Queen later.

I had seen the one at Queen uncovered (though I didn’t stick around to see if it was actually active) and had just assumed the corresponding signal at Dundas was the same. A 50% success?
