The TTC will make several changes to service on November 16 including more frequent service on Line 1 Yonge-University and streetcar routes 505 Dundas and 511 Bathurst. Several bus routes in the northwest part of Toronto will change in anticipation of service beginning on Line 6 Finch, although an opening date for that has not been announced.
In the interest of publishing this article as soon as possible after I received details of changes from the TTC, this does not yet include the spreadsheet showing the before and after service designs for affected routes. This will be added in the next few days. Check back for updates.
This is a long article with information about many route and service changes.
Updated November 15, 2025: A spreadsheet detailing all of the changes in service plans has been added at the end of this article.

Streetcar Service Changes
501 Queen cars will begin their diversion via Broadview, Dundas and Parliament for water main and track work on Queen west of Broadview. This will continue until late April 2026.
503 Kingston Road continues to operate with buses, but the route will be shortened to York Street looping via York, Richmond and University returning east on King. Buses will run via Queen to Parliament, then to King, to replace 501 Queen cars diverted onto Dundas.
504D King buses between Parliament and Broadview Station will continue to operate via Queen between the Don River and Broadview through the construction zone.
505 Dundas and 511 Bathurst will operate every 6 minutes during the daytime 7 days/week. This is an improvement during most periods.

506 Carlton: The diversion around track work will be extended east to Parliament Street via Dundas to allow for reconstruction of the curves at Carlton & Parliament, and overhead on Parliament from Carlton to Gerrard. Buses will operate on Carlton/College. This change is not reflected in the maps below.

Line 6 Finch Bus Route Changes
Several bus routes will change in anticipation of Line 6 Finch which is expected to begin service soon.
Here is the overall Line 6 route plan.

A major change lies in the structure of 36 Finch West. The segment between Finch West Station at Keele and Finch Station at Yonge will be split off as a separate route. Branches of route 36 serving industrial areas will become separate, modified routes. The main Finch bus service will operate from Finch West Station to Humberwood via Humber College.
- 36: Finch Station to Finch West Station. Standard sized buses
- 36B: Finch Station to Humberwood (discontinued)
- 36C: Finch West Station to Humberwood replacing 36B. This is a temporary service pending opening of Line 6. Articulated buses. To be suspended if Line 6 opens.
- 36D: To Weston & Milvan replaced by 166 Toryork
- 36F: To Weston & Milvan via Fenmar replaced by 119B Torbarrie
- 36J: Early Sunday service between Finch Station and Humberwood will be replaced by 336 Finch West.
- School trips to St. Basil-the-Great College School removed. Replaced by a new trip on 165 Weston Road North.

The southern part of 119 Torbarrie is unchanged, but it is extended north from Sheppard to Arrow Road Garage (119A) and to serve the area north of Finch (119B). That same area is served by the new 166 Toryork bus from the north running to Pioneer Village Station.
Service on the 119A will operate weekday peaks and midday, and the 119B will operate during peak periods only. Service on the 166 will be peak only. This mirrors the existing pattern on the 36D/F and 119 services.
New destination signs:
- 119A Torbarrie // Wilson Station // via Torbarrie
- 119A Torbarrie // Arrow Rd // via Clayson
- 119A Torbarrie // Wilson Station // via Clayson
- 119A Torbarrie // Arrow Rd // via Torbarrie
- 119B Torbarrie // Wilson Station // via Torbarrie
- 119B Torbarrie // Milvan // via Clayson // and Fenmar
- 119B Torbarrie // Wilson Station // via Clayson
- 119B Torbarrie // Milvan // via Torbarrie // and Fenmar
- 119S Torbarrie // Short Turn // to Sheppard
- 119S Torbarrie // Short Turn // to Emery Station
- 166 Toryork // to Milvan
- 166 Toryork // to Pioneer Village Station
- 166 Toryork // Short Turn
- 166 Toryork // Short Turn // to Steeles & Islington
- 166 Toryork // Short Turn // to Emery Station
Note that in the maps below, north is not consistently located. The problem lies with the TTC’s maps.

336 Finch West will provide frequent overnight service on Finch from Humberwood to Finch Station. Destination signs:
- 336S Finch West // Blue Night // to Yonge Street

927D Highway 27 Express will be extended west from Highway 27 to Signal Hill and Steeles.
Destination signs:
- 927A Highway 27 Express // to Humber College Station

- 37A Islington // to Humber College // via Rexdale // and Woodbine Racetrack
- 37S Islington // Short Turn // to Islington & Rexdale

337 Islington: Trip times adjusted to align with start/end of service on 2 Bloor-Danforth, 37 Islington and 110 Islington South.
Service in the Downsview area will be consolidated in two routes, 101 Downsview and 107 Alness-Chesswood.
101 Downsview currently operates from Downsview Park Station to Stanley Greene Park. It will be extended:
- North to Finch West Station via the route now taken by 107 York University Heights. This service will run at all hours.
- South to Wilson Station via the route now taken by 128 Stanley Greene as 101B. This service is peak only as is the existing 128.
New signs:

- 101S Downsview Park // Short Turn // to Stanley Greene
107 York University Heights will be renamed as 107 Alness-Chesswood and its western leg will end at Finch West Station. Service south from there will be provided by the extended 101. The routing via Martin Ross, Flint and Supertest will operate at all times rather than peak periods only.
New destination signs:
- 107 Alness Chesswood // to Sheppard West Station
- 107 Alness Chesswood // to Finch West Station
- 107S Alness Chesswood // Short Turn
- 107S Alness Chesswood // Short Turn // to Finch
- 107S Alness Chesswood // Short Turn // to Steeles

Details of Service Design Changes
- 2025.11.16 Service Changes [Updated Nov. 15 at 5:15pm]
And as outlined in the 2025 TTC service plan, does the TTC still plans to merge 22 coxwell and 7 o Connor into one route when line 5 opens?
Steve: I don’t know. The final arrangements for Line 5 have yet to be confirmed. Many things in service plans wait a while before being implemented, if ever.

Sad to see that the 996 will no longer have “via York Mills Station & Wilson Station” in the destination sign.

What will be the divisions for the new routes?
Steve: I will include these on the spreadsheet.

The excuse of RapidTO for cutting the Dewbourne Ave., Ardmore Rd. and Heathdale Rd. stops on the 7 Bathurst is pure bunk. All three stops don’t have traffic signals, and [it] is part of the TTC’s policy to remove closely spaced stops where a crossing is not provided.
I’m not opposed to it (there are other stops close by) but I don’t like the dishonesty.

Will TTC Route 119 Torbarrie will be moved over from Wilson Garage to Arrow Rd Garage for the November Service Change Board?
Steve: Yes. All of the garage changes will be included in the spreadsheet when it is added to the post.

Minor correction in the Line 6 route changes section. 36D will be replaced by 166 (rather than 119B) and 36F will be replated by 119B (rather than 166).
Steve: Thanks for catching this. I have corrected the article.
On another note, looking at the new bus bay assignments at Finch West Station I can already see issues if 36C is going to be operated with artics as you noted. Bay 2, which 36C will share with 101, is a 40ft bay. Artics will end up blocking the north end loop while loading passengers regardless of if they pull straight into the bay or pull in from the loop. Although it is only temporary until Line 6 opens, they should have left 36C at Bay 3 where 36B boards now and have 36 share Bay 5 with 107. Then once Line 6 opens move 36 to Bay 3.

Who do I complain to get better service on the 26 Dupont bus?
Steve: Try Councillors Bravo and Saxe. This bus runs through both of their wards, and they sit on the TTC Board.

How close are we to the max operation threshold of line 1 ATC? I can’t remember the promised headway. Will we ever see the benefits of this very long service disruption in our lifetimes?
Steve: Even with the additional trains that will come as part of the Richmond Hill extension, we will not have the capacity to go below the pre-ATO level of 140 seconds. Getting down to 100 seconds requires more trains and yard space to house them. A related issue on Line 2 is that the trains now on order will only cover replacement at a 140 second headway level including the Scarborough extension. More trains plus the new yard at Kipling will re required. It is only the depressed riding post-covid that has saved the TTC from the capacity disaster that was building in the last decade, but if riders really do return in historic numbers plus growth, they will run out of room.
The huge lobbying effort needed to get funding for new trains only allows us to stand still on capacity.
There is, however, a big benefit of ATC even without extra trains. First, it is current technology replacing increasingly unreliable equipment mostly from the 50s-70s. Second, it allows trains to run closer together which has benefits at stations like Bloor with long platform dwell times, and when recovering from delays.

Hi Steve. I noticed that other than appearing on the map of Line 6 changes, there is next to no mention of the 906 Airport-Humber College Express. Is it on hold for some reason or did it get shelved entirely?
Steve: In the 2026 Annual Network Plan, at p. 26, it is listed as waiting on the opening of Line 6.

Thanks for the quick response Steve. One more while it’s on my mind – the Line 6 map shows the 118 Thistle Down running up Albion Road to Claireport alongside the 73C Royal York. This was initially planned in the 2022 ASP, then confirmed again in the 2024 ASP. Have there been any updates since?
Steve: No, and it’s not the only proposal that seems to have fallen off of the table. I will have to inquire.

And not tweets from TTCNotices. And no maps. I’m not sure how you get contradicting detours for effective both Monday and Tuesday at 9 AM. Perhaps they don’t know what ‘effective’ means.
Steve: And the Monday/Tuesday 17/18th detour has changed due to construction at Church & Carlton. I will be updating my article shortly. There are now maps in the TTC post which I will include in my article.

Hi Steve,
Yes, YRT proposed extending the 13 Islington to Humber College via Steeles, Kipling, and Finch (thus serving Mount Olive, Stevenson, Albion, Martin Grove AND Westmore Stations). The date of implementation was listed as September 2026 although I have seen YRT move plans up.

What is the point of having the 506 streetcar divert from Dundas up to College/Carlton and then back down to Dundas again just for the short stretch between Bay and Church? Especially considering there is bus coverage east of Spadina?
The only advantage I can see is a one-seat ride between this stretch and points west of Spadina at the cost of a time-consuming and reliability-killing double diversion. This is madness.
Steve: To preserve a connection at College Station. The TTC talks about doing diversions better, and then produces this sort of route, and it changes due to other circumstances including construction at Church & Dundas blocking the NE corner.

Steve, Is the TTC waiting to have the Eglinton line ready for startup before they start the Finch line?? I was one end of Eglinton to most of the other and the cars were out testing in full force(I counted 7 between Brentcliffe and Kennedy and 2 over at Mount Dennis)! With the Eglinton surface routes being done first(I know not all of them), it looks like they want Eglinton first. Your thoughts….
Steve: Although Metrolinx has mentioned that Eglinton might open in 2025, I think that is wishful thinking. The schedules now in place are designed so that 6 Finch can swap out 36 Finch West easily, but the same is not true on Eglinton. Frankly, I think after all of the talk about not repeating the Ottawa experience, it would be madness to rush Eglinton just to we could get it running this year, but who knows which politician wants a ribbon-cutting photo-op?

What is the point of preserving a connection at College Station that could be at Dundas instead?
I sent a complaint to the TTC via their contact form. Is there a better way to advocate for changes here?
Steve: I honestly don’t know. I have participated in countless sessions about how diversions might be organized, and this wandering tour never came up. Planning it has been complicated, I suspect, by last minute additions to the work plan.

It may not matter to most people here, but looping back up to Bay and College means the 506 still comes near enough to serve Women’s College Hospital and Canadian Blood Services. Now there is (finally!) a substitute bus that need isn’t as great, though the bus/streetcar connections at Spadina are still pretty clumsy, especially for anyone with mobility problems (and headed for the hospital).
I’m not saying the TTC made the best choice, just that the calculus involves more than east-to-west-side streetcars and subway connections. Some passengers actually want to go to destinations on College Street, even in the short stretch between Bay and Church, and some of them may not find it easy to walk an extra 500 metres.
Steve: There was an extra “oops” in the plans for College/McCaul in the idea of doubling service on 94 Wellesley as a “nearby” route while forgetting that it was actually running on Bloor Street thanks to construction on Hoskin/Harbord. That’s why there was no replacement bus on College until recently.

I work at College and Elizabeth, so I am one of those passengers who actually wants to go there, albeit one who is able-bodied. Unfortunately, Bay and College is not super close to Women’s College Hospital either, so it seems like for people with mobility challenges the bus would be better—if the transfer experience weren’t so bad.
The eastbound connection at Spadina especially is horrible. When I went through at this morning peak, very few people were using the replacement bus. I was the only passenger on mine. It seems like having the temporary stop on Spadina southbound would be a lot easier for people transferring from the streetcar on the island platform at College eastbound. But it might be impossible to turn left after in some traffic.
Seems like often with replacement service there are no good choices, only bad choices and worse choices.

It’s not something that could easily be done ad hoc for a diversion, but when I was in Europe this fall (I think it was in Salzburg, and possibly also in other cities?) there were intersections where buses made a left turn from the right lane, across other traffic, on a white bar signal. Like streetcars here turn right from the left lane, except with signal priority.
Steve: Transit priority and signalling techniques used in many cities are unknown in Toronto. Yes, on a temporary basis for a diversion this would be a challenge both for the short term installation, and because motorists are not used to that type of signal.

The 501 diversion in the east has started but the advance turn signals they spent much money to install a couple of years ago remain covered up?
Steve: You want consistency? This isn’t the first diversion where they’ve forgotten to turn them on.

Coincident with the official name changes of the old Eglinton West and Dundas stations, I have noticed a change begun this week, on the TR trains operating on Line 1.
The destination signs are amended to show a route number, so “Finch” becomes “1 Finch”.
Connections with other transit agencies are now noted in next station announcements.
A couple of examples: At Yorkdale the connection to Ontario Northland and GO Transit is now part of the announcement. At Sheppard West the connection for York Region Transit is announced.
Steve: However, the use of a subsidiary street name is inconsistent. We have “TMU / Dundas Street” to retain a sense of place, but only “Cedarvale” with no hint this is at Eglinton. Similarly, the stops on Line 6 do not name the major street they actually serve. This is a basic wayfinding issue. Metrolinx might not want duplicate station names, but people have to know where they are.

I’d like to think that Toronto commuters are smart enough to know the difference between a new “Kipling” station on the Finch LRT vs the older “Kipling” station on the Bloor Subway line. If we must have different names we can go with a hyphenated name: “Kipling-Finch”, and also have a “Weston Rd-Finch”, “Islington-Finch” and “Eglinton-Allen Rd”. Afterall we had a “Bloor-Yonge” station for almost 60 years and we figured that out very quickly.
In New York City there are FIVE stations called “23rd Street”, one on each of the five north-south lines in Lower Manhattan. With minimal research you’ll get yourself to the correct location.
In Chicago there are two stations on the Blue Line called “Western”, one on the northwest arm to O’Hare and the other on the west arm to Forest Park. I wonder if there is much confusion between to the two stations in different parts of town.
Many decades ago I graduated from the Cedarvale Junior School, and I can confirm that not too many Torontonians knew this community name outside of midtown Toronto.
Let’s use names of the major arterial roads, that most people are already familiar with, for our transit stations, rather for some other very local name, just to avoid a similar name with another station on a different line.
Steve: This is an example of the Wisdom of Metrolinx who pontificate from On High and produce completely stupid results. After all this is the Board that spent an entire meeting deciding between “Hakimi” and “Lebovic” on Line 5, and eventually went for the hyphenated version. At least they are real street names someone can find on a map.
What is so utterly ridiculous even if they wanted distinct names was to omit subtitles with the actual street names such as “Emery / Weston Road”.
Of course if you show up with a bundle of cash, you can get your local station renamed to suit your fancy/ego.
