The City of Toronto will be closing the intersection of Spadina and Bloor to all traffic from 5am Monday, July 15 to 5am Monday, July 22 for complete reconstruction. This is the west end of a project that has been working its way along Bloor Street for months.

TTC bus service will divert to St. George Station. Whether this will alleviate the bus congestion at the north end of the route remains to be seen.
Because this is a non-standard route, transit prediction apps will not work for locations off of Spadina, and southbound predictions will only work for stops and buses that are south of Harbord.

Is there any reason why they didn’t decide to have the 511 run to union instead of having it go to the exhibition? It’s a fairly easy transfer from it to the 509 at fleet Street and Bathurst.
Steve: There are a lot of events at the Ex through the summer. For the diversion design, the question is what travel patterns are interrupted and can be rerouted. I suspect the answer is different depending on the time of day/day of week.

Why isn’t track and traction reconstruction being accelerated to mitigate inconvenience?
Steve: That is an excellent question. In the case of Spadina, the TTC appears to be taking advantage of the six-month shutdown for construction at Spadina Station to take a leisurely approach to work on the rest of the line. I think a similar problem afflicted the St. Clair project.
