The second and third versions, for which these are last and first day of issue respectively required the conductor to punch the time of issue. Needless to say, the second version which did not require punching the hour, only the minute, saved a lot of work. Note that these are last and first day of issue because March 31, 1895 was a Sunday and there was no service.
